Item #USHG-017
U.S. Army World War I "5th Corps" M-1917 Colonel & Brigadier General Helmets
The Colonels helmet has rough finish with WW I pattern silver eagle soldered to the front, on the LEFT side of the helmet the rough finish has been removed to put the 5th Cops insignia, blue and white painted insignia, very fine and is 85% with light wear and age. Liner is still very nice but the leather chinstrap is gone, liner is tied to the chinstrap metal rings. Helmet is stamped on the rim "ZA30". Overall very nice, the silver Colonel Eagle shows it age, looks a little worn and it tarnished. The Brigadier General Helmet has rough finish with some wear to the finish, the silver General Star is WW I pattern, it has heavy tarnish and also is soldered to the front. The rough finish has been removed to put the 5th Corps painted white and blue insignia on the RIGHT side. The liner is still nice and has the leather chinstrap, it looks sound but it is over 100 years old and it is marked 7-1/8 for size, so would not play with it. Helmet is stamped on the rim with "Z D over 2 8". Both helmets are American and not the British pattern. Overall both are very nice for their age, both show light wartime wear. Would think these two helmets belonged to the same man, they came from a friend several years ago and he has now passed away, he had them for years but could not remember where he had picked them up, crazy that you could forget something like that, but just wait until you get old. With some research it may not be too hard to find out who they may have belong to. Exc. + $1000.00 for the pair. RARE
